About B58 intake
An intake is usually the first part a B58 owner buys. It is cheap, it bolts on in under an hour, and it makes the turbo easier to hear. On a stock car the gain is small. On a tuned car, a better intake helps the turbo breathe and keeps intake temps in check.
This page covers three kinds of B58 intake:
- Billet filter adapters (Burger Motorsports). The lowest cost option. They keep the factory airbox and ducting and swap in a better filter. BMS claims up to 8 whp.
- Sealed-box cold air intakes (aFe, Mishimoto, BMS Competition, Dinan). A larger filter in a closed housing that still pulls cold air from the factory inlet.
- Carbon intakes (Eventuri, 034Motorsport). The premium choice. They look great under the hood and are built around a smoother air path.
We also sell turbo inlet pipes and our own silicone inlet pipe. These replace the factory plastic pieces between the filter and the turbo.
Pick the right engine first. Gen 1 B58 (F-series, 2016 to 2019) and Gen 2 B58 (G-series and the A90/A91 Supra) use different intake parts. Some early G-chassis cars, like the G30 540i and G01 X3 M40i, shipped with the Gen 1 engine. Check your build date or send us your VIN.
You do not need a tune to run an intake. But most of the gain shows up once the car is tuned, so plan for a tune such as bootmod3 or MHD.
None of these intakes are CARB exempt. They are not for sale in California.
How to choose
- Good: BMS Billet Intake. The cheapest real intake upgrade. Keeps the factory airbox and is fully reversible.
- Better: sealed cold air intake. A bigger filter in a closed box. Mishimoto backs theirs with a lifetime warranty. aFe claims +14 hp and +22 lb-ft for the Supra Pro 5R.
- Best: Eventuri carbon. For owners who want the best-looking engine bay and a carefully shaped air path. Eventuri claims 17 to 20 hp on the Supra.
Add a turbo inlet pipe when you go Stage 2. It replaces a plastic part that can be restrictive at higher boost.
FAQ
Do I need a tune for a B58 intake?
No. Every intake on this page works on a stock car. You will get the most out of it with a tune, because the tune can use the extra airflow. Most owners buy the intake and the tune together as Stage 1.
How much power does a B58 intake add?
Expect a small gain on its own. Burger Motorsports claims up to 8 whp for its billet intake. aFe and Eventuri claim 14 to 20 hp for their Supra intakes. Treat these as manufacturer claims, since results vary with tune, fuel and weather.
Will a Gen 1 intake fit my Gen 2 car?
No. The Gen 1 (F-series) and Gen 2 (G-series and Supra) engines use different airboxes and inlet parts. Order by your engine, not just your model name. If you are not sure, send us your VIN.
Is the silicone inlet pipe worth it?
It is the cheapest intake-side mod we sell. It replaces the factory plastic inlet with silicone, adds turbo sound, and is commonly bought for quicker spool. It fits Gen 1 and Gen 2 BMW, but not the Supra.
Are these intakes legal in California?
No. None of the intakes on this page are CARB exempt, so we cannot sell them for use in California.
